Self-exclusion
There are steps you can take to self-exclude yourself from gambling. All licensed gambling providers, like arcades, betting shops, bingo halls, casinos and online betting websites can set this up for you. To self-exclude, speak to staff at the venue. You can also arrange exclusion from multiple gambling venues or sites through ‘multi-operator self-exclusion schemes’.
- GAMSTOP can enable exclusion from all gambling sites licensed in Great Britain.
- The Multi Operator Self-Exclusion Scheme gives people the opportunity to choose the betting shops they want to be excluded from.
- The Bingo Association can support with self-exclusion from bingo halls.
- The British Amusement Catering Trade Association (BACTA) can enable self-exclusion for arcades and adult gaming centres.
Blocking software
Blocking software restricts access to websites or other services online. Depending on the provider, you may have to pay a fee for blocking software, so it’s best to consider all the options and find the solution best suited to your needs.
If you’re using iOS, on an iPhone or iPad, you can use the in-built parental blocker to stop access to gambling related content. If you’re setting this up for yourself, you should get someone else to set the password for you so you can’t remove it without their assistance.
These are examples of gambling-specific blocking software:
- Gamban (Mac OS X, Windows, Android and iOS)
- Gamblock (Windows computers and Android phones)
- BetBlocker (Windows, Linux and Mac)
More information is available on the GamCare website.
